“I Don’t Know How to Pose” – is A Common Worry Before your Newborn Photography session
One of the things parents often tell me they worry about before their newborn photography session is this:
“I don’t know how to pose.”
If that thought has crossed your mind, please know you’re not alone. Many families arriving at my studio for their newborn photography session say exactly the same thing.
Here’s the quiet truth: you don’t need to know how to pose.
You don’t need to be a model.
You don’t need to worry about where to put your hands.
And you certainly don’t need to perform for the camera.
When families come to my newborn photography studio in Tawa, my goal isn’t to direct every tiny movement. Of course, I’ll gently guide you when it’s helpful, but most of the time my role is much simpler than that. I create a calm, unhurried space where you can simply be with your baby. A place where you can slow down, breathe them in, and enjoy those quiet newborn snuggles.
Because the magic in newborn photography doesn’t come from perfectly practiced poses. It comes from the small, instinctive moments that already exist between you and your baby.
The way you naturally soothe them when they stir.
The way you look at them without even realising.
The way they settle into you because you are their whole world.
Those are the moments I’m watching for during every newborn photography session.
Those are the moments that tell the real story of these early days.
And those are the moments I’ll capture for you.
If you're expecting and thinking about newborn photography in Wellington or Porirua, I’d love to welcome you into my Tawa photography studio. My sessions are designed to feel relaxed and unhurried, so you can simply enjoy those early moments with your baby while I quietly document them. If you’d like to learn more about what a session is like, or check availability around your due date, you’re always welcome to get in touch.
